FLUID MX Release 2.0 solves growing demand for open APIs and network flexibility through SDN

July 25, 2016 – Ottawa, Canada & San Jose, California – Edgewater Wireless Systems Inc. (YFI; TSX.V), the manufacturer of high-density WiFi3™ – next generation, multi-channel WiFi technology, is pleased to announce today the launch of the company’s next generation FLUID MX controller. FLUID MX series controllers are designed with high performance hardware and a multicore processor that enables next generation data forwarding capacity, reliability and professional user GUI & AP management capacity.

The 2nd Generation of our controller product line, the Fluid MX Controller is built on an advanced open SDN platform to orchestrate the creation of virtual networks with high scalability. The SDN platform of the Fluid MX Controller enables network managers and operators to architect a robust wireless network. The Fluid MX can take advantage of the latest SDN concepts including OpenFlow and OpenDaylight to enable configuration agility in a hybrid environment.

“Network managers and operators demand a wireless LAN controller that supports extensive capabilities, performance and enhanced management features, allowing operators to scale and grow their networks cost-effectively” stated Eric Smith, Global Director of Engineering Sales at Edgewater Wireless “Our new FLUID MX Controller provides network operators with an enterprise-class WLAN management solution that can be scaled from only a few access points to a centrally-managed solution for high density, high RF interference environments with 100s of access points.”

The FLUID MX series of Access Controllers support a broad range of Edgewater access points to provide high-reliability and performance in a cost-effective wireless LAN system, and enables an exceptional end user experience. Wireless devices and WiFi networks are becoming increasingly challenging to deploy and manage. The increasing complexity, and density of networks also creates installation and operational challenges and is driving network OPEX and CAPEX exponentially higher.

FLUID MX is capable of controlling multiple access points and provides simplicity and elegance in wireless management. Optimized for multi-channel WiFi deployments in campus, hospitality and carrier environments, the FLUID MX supports a wide range of network features and functionality.

Specific new features include

  • FLUID MX has been architected with an open-mind, and can take advantage of the latest SDN concepts including OpenFlow and OpenDaylight.
  • FLUID MX supports N +1 redundancy, providing high security, availability and the reliability required by today’s large-scale deployments and mission-critical business applications.
  • FLUID MX enables a wide array of deployment modes, such as local and tunnel forwarding, and 802.1Q VLAN binding with SSID
  • FLUID MX supports advanced security; MAC-based, 1x, 802.11i, GRE and IPSEC security features for data encryption

“We’ve moved to SDN for our next generation Fluid MX Controllers because the future of the network is open. SDN extracts customers from the endless, proprietary cycle of vendor lock-in at the controller level and allows for extensive module based customization.” said Andrew Skafel, President & CEO of Edgewater Wireless “This is really about shifting the control or ownership of controllers from vendors to the customer. We’re at the forefront of addressing the new paradigm joining the likes of Facebook, Google, Brocade.”
